With the current state of affairs around the world right now, everything we normally have planned for this time of year has been canceled or rescheduled. It is a major bummer to be sure; no theme parks, Ren-faires, shows, festivals, games, camping, and outings of any kind, but its better to be safe than sorry. It makes sense to exercise a bit of extra caution so that we don’t over load St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.

Still, I am so sad that Wizarding World is closed for the time being, sings “I want to get away….” I need a Potter fix. I will have to make some pumpkin juice and clotted cream ice cream soon. When I do, I will post my recipes.

I work in a grocery store, so I am still going to work daily, and it has been a bit hectic to be sure. All I can say is, to quote Mad Eye Moody, “Constant Vigilance!” Please be respectful, polite, and try to treat others as you want to be treated. There is nothing wrong with being a hermit for a while, and do the best you can.

Okay, off the soap box – lets paint and play with the Cricut.

This was all made and designed with supplies I already have mounds of on hand, so I didn’t even have to go to the effort to order wall hanger hooks. That’s the beauty of buying in bulk and on sales! Yay, sales!

Last night I started painting one of the more ornate raw pine wall plaques that I have in my craft supplies stash. I have been wanting to make a wand display for an extremely long time, and now seems as good a time as any.

I’ve seen a few floating around online and decided that it was time for me to make my own version. We can’t go to the theme parks for a while. so at least this way our wands will be out where we can play with them, instead of hiding in their pretty boxes. Apparently, I am up to 9 wands in my personal collection (I think Joe has 3) and only 8 will fit on this display. The younger Albus Dumbledore’s wand is a little unbalanced for the spacing, so that one will probably get its own display, or wait until I make another.

The lightweight, low-profile BrightPad makes crafting easier while reducing eye strain.

I mixed up some of my acrylic paints to create the colors I wanted, then painted the base colors on the plaque.

Layouts/Files below are for PERSONAL USE ONLY. I do not own any copyrights or licensing for the logos/names/art/etc. My templates /artwork and designs are strictly for inspiration and entertainment purposes only, and are NOT intended for sale/resale. PLEASE DO NOT attempt to sell anything you make using my templates. This is meant for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Thank you

Then…(drum roll) I pulled out the handy dandy Cricut, opened my Cricut Design Space™, and tweaked an image of the Dark Mark Crest I got from Google search. I re-sized it to fit within the boundaries of the plaque, and added the phrase, “The Wand Chooses” (good right?), then cut it out with HTV. I didn’t want to paint it on because I wanted to use some of my shiny vinyl.

After applying the vinyl with my Easypress, I measured out the distances I wanted for the holders, and had the wonderful Joe drill out the holes at an angle being super fancy with his drill press. You can use a drill as long as you hold it steady and measure carefully.

Donations are appreciated, but not expected. They go towards craft supplies and site maintenance in order to help bring more fantastic content.

We then cut some bamboo skewers into 2” sections. You could use some small dowel stock, but the skewers were a near zero cost alternative for this purpose. Then I sanded the ends and painted them a complimentary color. You can glue them in place if prefer. I was originally going to use cup hooks, but the ones we had in-house were too small for some of my wands, so we improvised. I added a wall hanger to the back like the ones I used when I made the Diagon Alley signs, and hung the rack in the living room where we can have the wands at the ready for whatever comes our way.

We have more than enough supplies in this house to craft with, so I hope you look forward to more projects from me in the near future.

Wands in order Severus Snape, Voldemort, Nicolas Flamel, Bloodwood (Alivans) Horace Slughorns, Handmade Box Elder wand (Joe made it), Handmade Ebony (Windermere), Ollivanders custom
